Sites of Organizations

Private or Non-profit
Families with Children from China, (FCC), the largest site for China adoption information. Much primary information and links to other resources.
Chinese Growth Charts are at http://www.fwcc.org/growthchart.html, on the FCC site.
The Paper Chase (to China), (World Child) very good content and presentation of the details of preparing the dossier and handling the other paper processing. Other useful information also. (Also, see Assistant Stork link below for Vital Records offices, Consulate/Embassy information.)
China adoption costs and fees. Adoption fees vary, partly because services vary in how inclusive they are. A sample listing of costs from one agency is given at http://www.holtintl.org/china/chinacost.shtml
China adoption process. A clear and intelligent guide (with links) to the procedures and how to follow them successfully is given by China Seas agency: http://www.chinaseasadopt.org The site includes brief guidance on choosing an agency. (See also Chinadopt site link below.)
Packing lists from the "CarryOnOnly" group (COO, and sometimes called "carry-on only" or "carry-on-only") offer guidance from adoptive travelers who practice traveling light, taking only what they carry onto the plane! Anyone may access the packing lists in the "Files" section of the group's website at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CarryOnOnly. (See also Ed Hume's Chinadopt site noted below for a packing list and other practical guidance.)
Affidavit of Support (I-864) and Contract Between Sponsor and Household Member (I-864A) details. Clarifying information about the financial support documentation to submit when you are in Guangzhou applying for the child's U.S. visa. Neither form is needed by married couples traveling together, nor by single (unmarried) parents. A married person traveling without spouse will need one or both (as explained on the above linked page).
Adoptive Families of America, has a searchable database of adoption agencies and guidance on how to choose an agency and other matters. The magazine is under the editorship (and ownership) of Susan Caughman, a China-adoptive parent.
NAIC, National Adoption Information Clearing House, (of the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services) offers various databases -- legal, statistical, bibliographic, and guides to resources.
Companies providing adoption benefits are listed at http://www.holtintl.org/benefits.shtml. Benefits range from parental leave to financial support.
A listing of adoption agencies which are members of the respected JCICS (Joint Council on International Children's Services) is at http://www.jcics.org/members.html. Many agencies have websites (with URLs given in that listing). (Note: guidance on how to select an agency is found on the Adoptive Families of America site and Ed Hume's Chinadopt site listed below.)

USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, was BCIS) now has most of the former INS functions. Information and downloadable forms at <http://www.uscis.gov> , and select "Immigration Forms," or use the direct links below.

Fingerprinting ("biometrics") instructions and fees are included with the I-600A application information/forms.

For link to Feb. 27, 2001, CIS "Backgrounder" and Q&A sheet about "Child Citizenship Act of 2000," see News Notes (this site).

For application and information for an I-600A , go to http://www.uscis.gov/i-600a. Includes fingerprinting ("biometrics") information.

For application for a Certificate of Citizenship, CIS now uses the N600 Form, (not the N643 as previously used). Note that the CIS website says that effective July 30, 2007 (postmark), the fee is $240 for an adopted child, but $255 for other applicants using the form. To download the form and information, go to http://www.uscis.gov/n-600 . (The fee prior to the July 30 postmarked application date is $215.)

A married parent traveling without spouse should see Affidavit of Support (I-864) guide on this site regarding required documents for obtaining the adopted child's visa in Guangzhou.

Change-of-address form to file with USCIS is I-865. (Note 30 day deadline to avoid fine.) Get it at http://www.uscis.gov/i-865.

-- Adoption Tax Credit information is in publication # 972. The form to file is #8839 (and see the instructions for 8839).

-- Form 4506 is for ordering copies of your previously-filed returns. NOTE: it may take 6 weeks or more to obtain copies of previously-filed returns. A tax transcript will NOT necessarily satisfy the requirement of what must be submitted at the Guangzhou consulate (if you must file I-864 or I-864A)--a full tax return copy will, but parents must be sure they are presenting adequate information. See consular advice note in the I-864/I-864A information on this site.

- CCAA: The CCAA website may be accessed at http://www.china-ccaa.org/frames/index_unlogin_en.jsp. Some of the key documents are also on the China Connection site, which you are now viewing. (See following list.)

CCAA website (See the above paragraph).Full China adoption law (quite involved), specifications of documents for adoption, and more. This is the China Center of Adoption Affairs. Caution: because the site gives China's 1992 adoption law, in addition to providing the text of amendments passed in Nov., 1998 and effective April 1, 1999, some extra care in reading is needed. The overview article noted below may be more useful to the average reader.

(See the China Connection .article for an overview of China adoption law changes effective April 1, 1999. (Note: the Guideline revision referred to below is at the policy level of CCAA and not a change of Chinese law.)

CCAA Quotas Statement (of Oct. 12, 2001) regarding agency submission of dossiers, limitation of percentage of single aplicants, and currency of post-adoption reporting.

CCAA Policy Statement (of June 18, 2001) regarding age limits of applicants, family size and several other points.

REVISED CCAA Guidelines (revision of Dec. 4, 2000, went into effect Feb. 1, 2001) for homestudy and dossier, including forms for Medical examination and Financial report and Guidelines for Post-adoption report. This is a revision of policy by CCAA, not a change of law. (These guidelines are on the China Connection site, but readers may go to the CCAA site by using the above CCAA website link.)
