Tangram

 

 

 The tangram is an ancient Chinese storytelling device. A picture (tangram) is made by arranging the entire set of seven tans with all touching, but not overlapping. From the master diagram above (left), it is seen that the square is cut so that each line segment meets the end or the middle of another segment. In Grandfather Tang's Story, reviewed in this issue, tangrams are used in telling a traditional story. -BC
