Chinese words, phrases & more (including an allergy card if needed & optional CD --see bottom of page)
(For ordering instructions, please see bottom of page.)

Enhance your China experience. Have some expressions to comfort your child.

This is the classic set of cards for traveling China-adoptive parents: Containing over 100 terms or phrases on 26 cards (calling-card size, ivory color, strung on a chain), PLUS two special loose cards (--see below). A map of Shamian Island (U.S. Consulate and White Swan, etc.) is on one card in the deck. Another map card is included showing the new location (August, 2005) of the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou.

Each term or phrase is given in English, then pinyin, then the Chinese in simple phonetic English as a guide and, finally, in Chinese characters (printed from a professional Chinese font set).

Hear the cards -- The cards' contents are spoken on CD (optional) by a native speaker

All of the card set's contents are spoken (twice) by a native Chinese speaker. Each card side is on a separate track for easy finding and options of replaying. Each expression is followed by a pause as in normal language-learning recordings. The CD plays continuously through the card set in the same sequence as the cards.
(Ordering information is at bottom of this page.)

Text of the special "show" cards: (Note: also spoken on the CD.)

  • I come to China to adopt a little Chinese girl. I will always love her and will teach her about beautiful China.
  • We come to China to adopt a little Chinese girl. We will always love her and will teach her about beautiful China.

(Two of each version of the "show" card are included in each set. These "show" cards are loose--not in the chained deck--in order to allow the card to be browsed by onlookers without the entire deck's being passed around. You may request a "boy" version of these cards.)

Copyrigh protecteted.

Grammatical note
In Chinese, "I come ...," is the same as "I have come ...," so we have omitted the English 'have' in order to make the English text match the Chinese. In case you wonder, a Chinese speaker does add various "time" terms to express past, future or in-progress actions when the intended time reference is not made clear by the context..

For ALLERGIES--
If you need it, you may request a card (free) with the following two expressions (in English, pinyin, simple phonetic English, and Chinese characters), with your particular allergy named:

  • I am allergic to X.
  • No X. (I do not want X.)

(Such a card might concern a food allergy and could be used in a restaurant, or an allergy to some drug or other material you specify with your order.)

 Ordering:

Card set alone is $16 ($17 outside of U.S.), shipping included.

Card set with CD is $27 ($28 outside of U.S.), shipping included.
(The card set is the same whether you get the CD or not.)
